Gear Review: Stoic Merino Crew Short Sleeve Shirt

I was able to find the Stoic Merino Crew Short Sleeve shirt at departmentofgoods.com at a huge discount and decided to give it a test. I had not heard to much about the brand however the ratings on the Department of Goods website were quite high and many people seemed to like the shirts.

They are a very nice light weight 6 1/2 oz base layer t-shirt that is made out of merino wool. The wool allows for it to breathe and wick away sweat / moisture quickly. The antibacterial properties help keep odors down as well as.  The shirts retail between $55 – $60.

I have used my shirts on many occasions and have found that they do indeed wick away the moisture and help you stay cooler. The only down sides to the shirts is that they must be hand washed with Nicwax or even Woolite to ensure the fabric does not deteriorate and keep its water proof abilities.  If the shirt is 100% wet the shirt can take a considerable amount of time to dry. The company also suggests not to ring the water out which might cause damage to the wool fibers.

Overall this has been a great shirt and so far has held up quite nicely during normal hikes and walks. As I have not put hundreds of miles on these shirts it is hard to tell how long and how well they will hold up. I will update you as I continue to wear them.

Have you ever tried any of the Stoic brand apparel? What did you like or dislike about it?
