Gear Review: Innate Mentor Organizer and Storage Sacs

Categories:AT Gear | Gear | Gear Review | JMT Gear | Misc | Philmont Gear

The Innate Mentor Organizer and Storage sacs are a staple of my gear organization and packing. They are made out of a very light weight 30 denier fabric with double sided water proof treatments. What makes them special is the way the fabric is welded together. That is right I said welded. They use a system called Stitchless radio frequency that binds the layers and removes the need for seam tape like many of the competitors’ use.  One thing to note is that these are weather  proof but they are not intended to be submerged in water.

They have the traditional roll top seal with the durable side release buckle. You are most likely at this point wondering what that big black round thing at the bottom is. That is their patent pending O2-Flow one way compression valve. It allows you to squish all of the access air out while keeping the air from flowing back in.  The best feature is the signature noise that comes from the sacs while you are squishing the air out of them.  The best way to describe it would be a high pitched farting noise.

Do not be surprised when you pull them out of your pack and they have re-inflated. They do not keep the air out forever they are intended to allow you to squish all the air out put it into your pack and then allow the weight of the items around them to help keep the air out. Each sac is different in terms of how long it takes to inflate and it also depends on what you have in them as well.  You also need to take into account that they can not be filled all the way to the top and you will need allow for enough space to roll the seal three times for best results.

Sizes range from 2 liters all the way up to 20 liters.  Average cost will run you anywhere between $32 for a set of three (2L, 3L, and 5L) on up to $32 for the 20 liter. The best place I have been able to find them is on amazon. Innate Gear Mentor Storage Sac and  Innate Mentor Organizer Sac Combo (2L, 3L and 5L).

I have used these on many occasions now and my brother used them through his two week backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch.  We both highly recommend them because of their durability, ease of use, and you can’t forget the awesome farting noise they make. It is a heck of a way to entertain your camp mates with.
