The MarthaBar was created by a mother and teacher of twenty years named Martha. She wanted to help promote healthy eating and nutritional energy for her growing college boys. Sending care packages to her sons in college became the catalyst for the bars. The idea and the bars became more than just a college treat and soon found its way to friends, family, local coffee shops and nutrition stores.

Martha says that she focused on two areas when creating the bars. “My criteria for ingredients are: 1) High quality foods that support optimal performance of your body, 2) Raw, whole foods whenever possible to help your body more easily use the nutrients in the food, and 3) Really good tasting combinations of flavors that make your taste buds tingle with enjoyment.”

What I thought of the MarthaBar

The bars are just the right size for a trail snack. The chocolate provides a nice addition to the bar however if the bar becomes hot it will melt which creates a bit of a hassle getting it out of the wrapper and not making a mess of things in the process. I found that if you freeze the bars the night before your run or hike they will stay together longer in the heat. However this method is not suggested for cold winter hikes or runs.

The blend of raw flavors provides a unique texture and taste. I personally am not a big cranberry fan but the other flavors kept the cranberries from being overpowering. The mixture of nuts, peanut butter, and chocolate are always a good choice in a snack mix and the evolution of all of that into a bar form makes it easier to eat and delivered quickly to the body for trail fuel. A unique product with just as unique history.

Cost: $3.00 per bar. You can order them directly from the MarthaBar website.
