Looking for your next adventure? SoCalHiker.net has a hiking challenge for you!

SoCalHiker_Six-Pack-of-PeaksJeff of SoCalHiker.net has created The SoCalHiker Six-Pack of Peaks while training to hike the John Muir Trail.  This training program included several weekday conditioning hikes, longer weekend hikes, weight-bearing hikes and hikes at higher altitude with substantial elevation gain.

When it was all said and done he had created a set of six peak bagging hikes that are progressively more challenging and all of which are within a couple hours drive from anywhere in southern California.

When Jeff hiked these, he was also hiking 5 miles every Monday and 6-7 miles every Wednesday. He was ready to tackle these (not that they were easy). He was prepared.

The Six-Pack is not for newbies! Every single hike is strenuous, and you should already be a strong hiker before taking these on. Which is not to say that you can’t start now and complete them this year, but it takes a base level of training and conditioning to prepare for the Six-Pack.

Also, although these are all popular peaks to hike, they are true, wilderness hikes. They require a higher level of preparation than a hike on your local neighborhood trails. You should carry the ten essentials, know how to navigate, when to turn around and call it a day, and what to do if “Plan B” is required. d

Finally, the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge is about community — connecting with other challengers via the forums on SoCalHiker as well as through the hashtag: #sixpackofpeaks.
Quite a few sponsors have stepped up with gear for the giveaways, and Jeff (SoCalHiker) says that “I’ve really enjoyed sending out personal thank-you notes with stickers to the challengers. The Six-Pack has been around for a while, but this is the first year of the official challenge, and it’s turning out great.”
Jeff is also using this event to raise money for a great cause: Big City Mountaineers — a group that takes under-served urban kids on outdoor adventures (big ones, like climbing Kilimanjaro!) and transforms their lives.
