Submit Guest Post Ideas

We are currently not accepting guest content at this time!

Would you like to be a guest blogger on HikingTheTrail.com? We would love to share your stories or your products. Please use the form below to submit your post ideas. Please keep in mind when submitting your idea that you are simply sharing an Idea not the post itself. If we like your idea we will contact you with further instructions.

If you’re a marketer looking to submit an article with back linking, please scroll down to the section titled “Back-linking posts.”

We receive a lot of guest post ideas every day and we cannot guarantee that we will use every submission. There are a number of guidelines we’ve put together with the help of other bloggers that you should follow to increase the likeliness of getting your article posted.

To ensure a smooth process please follow the guidelines below!

  • Contains quality, clear and interesting advice and information that takes into account our readers
  • Is exclusively written for and contains content exclusively used for  Hiking The Trail  (no re-posts please!)
  • Is submitted with all necessary information that you want in the final version—links, link text, etc.
  • Does not infringe on copyright laws
  • If you wish to use photos you have taken the photos yourself, have permission to use the photos, or have the proper photo credit information to provide.
  • Includes a headline, body text, and your author byline.

Exclusivity

We ask that the posts you submit to us are written exclusively for use by Hiking The Trail. If you want to write on a topic familiar to you or that you’ve posted about elsewhere, please make sure it is original or at least re-written without borrowed text for Hiking The Trail.

Topics

When considering blog content, please keep in mind that our target audience is outdoors adventurers. Our readers love hiking, backpacking, and adventure stories. They also enjoy learning new outdoor skills and learning how to create things with  DIY projects.

If you represent a company who is looking to have your product or outdoor service reviewed we’d love to talk about the opportunities we can offer you. Please visit our Product or Service Review Page.

Back-linking posts

If you are a company or a marketing firm representing a company we would gladly speak with you about opportunities that Hiking The Trail can provide to your company or clients. If you are looking for a quick easy way to promote things by sharing “free content” or “free advertising” Do not expect a reply.

We are well aware that back links are popular for increasing Google results and often have articles submitted with keywords linking to a company’s website. We don’t oppose this, but prefer to work together with companies in product and gear reviews or other creative ways to present honest non biased information that is beneficial  for our readers.

We’d love to talk more about how we can work together to increase awareness of your company and make it fun and interesting for our readers. Please visit our Partnership / Sponsorship page for more details.

Pictures

No matter what your topic, pictures always help support the content of the post. Please make sure your pictures follow all the guidelines outlined here regarding exclusivity, copyrights, and more.

  • You have taken the photo yourself or are the owner of the photo.
  • You have permission to use the photo in editorial / blogging articles from the photographer.
  • You follow the user agreement and terms of purchase of stock photography sites if the photo was purchased from a stock photography site.
  • You provide proper photo credit information (Photographer Name and Link to site or social account)
  • We do not accept photos with stock photography water marks still in the photos.
  • We do not accept photos saved from google image search without having proper rights to use from the photos original owner.
  • Photos must be 72 DPI or greater.
  • Photos must be larger than 800px wide.

Formatting

Feel free to submit your content in Word, Shared Google Docs, RTF or plain text format.

Subheadings: Bold any subheadings so they stand out.

Links: Include the URL in brackets within the prose, immediately after the text you’d like to use as the link text. Note that we don’t publish affiliate links in guest posts.

Please do include everything you want to have included with your post in your submission. If you want to include links, paste them in the spot where you want them to go. If you want to use particular link text, tell us. Don’t assume we’ll know what information you want, and where: tell us clearly.

A note on links to your own blog or website…

If it’s relevant to the topic you’re writing about, you’re welcome to link back to your blog within the post. Keep in mind that this relevancy is very important. If we feel your post includes too many links back to your own blog, we may remove them, or reject the post. A high-quality, helpful post will get people checking out who you are more effectively than will lots of links back to your blog.

Post length

Your post should be as long as you need it to be in order to convey your message.

We publish posts that vary greatly in length. Anything goes—length isn’t a factor, but quality is. Stick with your own style and voice, and choose a length that sits well with you.

We have found that posts with word counts between 600 – 800 words are the most read.

Editing

All posts that appear on Hiking The Trail may be edited. We rarely edit them heavily, but we will change titles, rework openings or conclusions, or correct grammar and spelling. Don’t be offended by this—we’re just trying to make every post we publish as successful as possible.

Occasionally, we’ll send a post back to you with suggested additions, omissions, or changes. This generally suggests we feel the post could be further enhanced in ways that go beyond some basic editing.

Byline

You’ve worked to give us great content, so let us help you promote you. We want to highlight you, your blog, or any product or service that you have to offer. This is largely done in your byline.

Bylines should be a sentence or two explaining who you are and what you do. Feel free to include up to two links in it. Your byline will appear at the bottom of your post.

If you have any questions or concerns or would like to contact us with your post, please contact us via our contact form below.
